GE Profile Refrigerator Common Problems. I need your advice regarding GE Profile refrigerator common problems.
They have all kinds of problems with the ice maker; that’s why GE has instructions on how to check the water filter and purge the water filters on their website.
Consumer Reports lowers the reliability ratings of any fridge with an ice maker compared to the models that do not have one. And if it were just the ice maker, I’d switch to trays in the freezer and live with it.
Or install a new ice maker, assuming the problem is not the unit getting turned off by kids pushing buttons or the control panel erroring out.
I could at least try power cycling the fridge at the circuit breaker to try to get the error code to go away.
You’d get a legitimate power failure error in its place. But other than that, I’d have to say do a web search for what any error message means.
The manual is on the GE website. They also sell super expensive fridge cleaner when bathroom cleaner would do, as well as a fancy appliance brush for cleaning the coils.
GE ought to sell spare parts instead. The GE Profile light bulbs burn out fast and cost more than pizza dinners to replace.
If that was the biggest problem I had, I wouldn’t be asking for advice.
The shelves are mostly fragile plastic and have a tendency to break. And rearranging them to make space for a tall item is challenging.
That’s what the holders in the door are for.
They have problems with refrigerant leaks that cause the unit to lose its cool.
A refrigerator without refrigerant is a gloried ice box.
You could put ice in the fridge to try to keep food cold until you get it serviced.
How is GE on service for their Profile refrigerators?
It takes a week or two to get rush jobs done, and that’s assuming they get the right part to the tech.
That’s a problem.
A different problem is that GE won’t provide free labor and parts per their warranty if it goes kaput in the first year for most service calls, instead looking for excuses to make you pay for the warranty work.
Would they fix it dying at random times?
If the fridge is shutting off entirely at random, you need a new control board is a reboot via the fuse box does not work. If the entire fridge goes dark when you turn on another appliance, check the wall outlet instead.
That problem requires an electrician, not an appliance repair person.
Swap the plug to a different outlet to see whether it really is the control board giving you the smart kitchen version of a blue screen of death before you pay for a new control board.
